Hey Guys,
Today I will be sharing the March edition of Beauty Box Throw Down. In this review I will be sharing what I got in both my BoxyCharm and my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. BBTD is very similar to the regular reviews that I do where I show the products, link the products, share my thoughts, and the box total value. However, the difference with this is that I will also let you guys know which box that I think is a better value. Since I just cancelled my base box for Boxy charm, this will be my last Beauty Box Throw Down. So lets jump right in and see what I got!
First I'm going to share my thoughts on my BoxyCharm for March! For those of you unfamiliar with BoxyCharm, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 4-5 FULL SIZED products each month. The subscription is $25.00 a month and usually has a theme. You are now able to pick one item in your box each month but it is more of a this item or that. Not any item in your box. Their second offering is BoxyCharm Premium which is $35.00 a month and you get 6-7 products. You are able to pick one item from your box. Lastly, they also offer an upgraded box every quarter called BoxyLuxe. This is an additional $28.99 a quarter. The theme for March was "Boxy Edgy". I honestly wasn't super excited when I saw the spoilers. Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. Also, make sure to check out the discount codes below for the month!
BoxyCharm March 2020 "Boxy Edgy"
This was the item that I chose for my choice item. I wasn't wowed by the choices so I picked this because I knew I would use an eye cream. I haven't tried this product before but I know it's a good brand.
I still have my first Farmacy cleansing balm that I got from BoxyCharm sometime last year. I only used it once. I just don't use this type of product to remove my makeup. I prefer makeup remover wipes because they are less messy.
This palette looks pretty but the color scheme doesn't interest me. I don't want to use it just for one shade so I will be saving it for an upcoming giveaway.
I am not a huge fan of this brand and while I like lip gloss more than I use to, I don't need a million clear shimmery glosses. I will be saving this for the giveaway too.
I have a few hair masks that I still haven't used so I didn't really need another. That being said, this will end up getting used...eventually.
TOTAL VALUE: $166.00

Overall, I was not impressed with this box at all. I feel like BoxyCharm does not look at our beauty profiles which is a huge negative for me. This is the second box I was really disappointed about in only 3 months. I feel like they are mainly focusing on the BoxyCharm Premium box and putting the best brands and products in there. I have cancelled both my base box and Luxe box and will only be getting the Premium box going forward. So far the Premium box for April seems decent and I am excited to get it!
IPSY GLAM BAG PLUS
Next up is Ipsy Glam Bag Plus! I'm going to share my thoughts on my GBP for March! For those of you unfamiliar with Ipsy Glam Bag, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 5 deluxe/sample sized products each month. The subscription is $12.00 a month and usually has a theme. They also offer an upgraded box every month called Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. This box is $25.00 a month and includes 5 FULL SIZED products. They also offer another box called Ipsy Ultimate which I believe was created to compete with BoxyLuxe. This box is $50.00 a month and includes 8 FULL SIZED products and 4 deluxe/sample sized products. I am currently only subscribed to Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. All subscriptions come with a makeup bag (different sizes per subscription type) and you are able to pick one product in your box (GBP & GBU). With Glam Bag you are able to pick two.
The theme for March was "Ipsy Celebrate You". This was Ipsy's 100th GlamBag so they decided to celebrate by including a 6th item in everyone's box. I was excited to see TheBalm featured this month. I was going to skip because I didn't love the choices this month. However, they included a TheBalm Blush Palette to choice which I originally didn't see and I knew I had to have it. Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. Also, make sure to check out the discount codes below for the month!
TheBalm Autobalm GRL PWDR Cheeks On the Go Palette $26.50
I love this palette! It contains 4 different blushes; 3 matte blushes and 1 shimmer blush/blush topper. It could also be used as a highlighter. All of these blushes are very different which makes it a great palette for traveling. I have used all these blushes separately and mixed together. I have also used them as eyeshadows.
Here is a close up of the palette:
Here are swatches of the blushes:
Hey Honey Trick and Treat Concealer $36.00
I have heard of this brand before but have only tried their facial mask. I am always open to trying new concealers since I use them almost every day. The shade that was sent to me matches pretty well. The coverage isn't full coverage which I prefer but it could be used on days where I'm not wearing much makeup and just want to lightly cover my dark circles and/or blemishes. I was surprised at how expensive it was.
Here is a swatch of the concealer:
Complex Culture Precision Concealer Brush $26.00
I don't really use concealer brushes anymore. I mainly use a beauty blender to blend out my concealer. However, I gave this a try and its just REALLY stiff and dense which I don't think is good for the undereyes. I will be passing it on to someone else that might want it.
Hempz Pure Herbal Extracts Sweet Pineapple & Honey Melon Herbal Body Moisturizer $7.50
Body lotions/moisturizers don't really excite me because I normally stick to the same one all the time. That being said, this does smell good so I will probably throw it in my purse or leave it at work for when my hands get dry.
Yensa Skin on Skin BC Foundation (Travel Size) $15.00
Aside from getting an extra product this month we also got a $2 credit towards add ons. I believe this sample was $3.00 so I only paid $1 pus tax. I decided to add on this travel size of the Yensa BC Foundation in Light/Medium because I have wanted to try it for quite a while. This is a really nice foundation that gives a medium coverage and a natural finish. The shade is a tiny bit too light for me but I think the warm shade would be to yellow. I like this foundation and am considering purchasing it. The sample is pretty expensive given the size and amount you get. If anything, I would purchase the full size but wait for some sort of sale since its $39.00 which is on the higher end of what I am willing to spend for foundation.
Here is a swatch of the foundation:
This is the bag that all Glam Bag Plus members got. Mine actually has a little rip on the left hand side of the teal material. That was kinda of disappointing. I always put little bags aside in case I want to use them for a giveaway prize, use as part of a gift to someone, or donate them.
TOTAL VALUE: $130.00
Ipsy does their promotions different than BoxyCharm. Instead of offering discount codes for purchases on the featured brands websites, they offer cash back products featured in that month's glam bag. You are able to purchase full sized products at are sampled in the Glam Bag that month. The products are discounted from normal price and you can get cash bag on the purchase. They also offer "Ipsy Offers"that are discounted beauty bundles from different brands. Lastly, you are allowed to add "Add Ons" to your Glam Bag Plus which are other items featured that month that are not part of your personal box. These items are heavily discounted. Lastly, they offer "Mystery Bags".
Overall, this wasn't my favorite bag but I loved TheBalm blush palette that I received. That and the GlamGlow exfoliating cleanser were my favorite items in the box. The cost of the two together were way more than the cost of the box which made it worth it for me. I decided to skip my April bag next month as I wasn't in love with the spoilers shown.
WHO WINS THE BEAUTY BOX THROW DOWN? Ipsy Glam Bag Plus
Even though the overall value of my BoxyCharm was higher this month, the products in my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus interested me way more. The only item I was somewhat happy to get in my BoxyCharm was the Murad eye cream. I really loved TheBalm palette and the Glam Glow cleanser in GBP and the concealer and brush was okay too. I was also happy to get an extra product from Ipsy and an add on credit. With all of these things combined I would say that Ipsy Glam Bag Plus is the winner. This will be my last Beauty Box Throw Down for the time being since I cancelled my BoxyCharm base box. I will still be reviewing the BoxyCharm Premium Box and my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus but I'm thinking they will be separate since they are at different price points. Let me know your thoughts on this!
