Today I will be sharing the January edition of Beauty Box Throw Down. In this review I will be sharing what I got in both my BoxyCharm and my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. Since I am signed up for BoxyLuxe I will only be doing these when I get both boxes that are comparable in price. Beauty Box Throw Down is very similar to the regular reviews that I do where I show the products, link the products, share my thoughts, and the box total value. However, the difference with this is that I will also let you guys know which box that I think is a better value. So lets jump right in!

First I'm going to share my thoughts on my BoxyCharm for January! For those of you unfamiliar with BoxyCharm, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 4-5 FULL SIZED products each month. The subscription is $25.00 a month and usually has a theme. You are now able to pick one item in your box each month but it is more of a this item or that. Not any item in your box. They recently launched BoxyCharm Premium which is $35.00 a month and you get 6-7 products. You are able to pick one item from your box. Lastly, they also offer an upgraded box every quarter called BoxyLuxe. This is an additional $28.99 a quarter. The theme for January was "Breaking the Ice". I was pretty excited to see Wander Beauty, Too Faced, and Glow Recipe featured in the base box! Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. BoxyCharm January 2020 "Breaking the Ice"
Ace Beaute Scarlet Dusk Palette $34.99
I thought it was weird that I received this concealer because a couple months back they sent out two different complexion samples and this is not the one I received. I got the foundation sample. You would think they would have sent this concealer to the people that got the concealer sample of this as they got to put in the correct color on a form. This color was lighter than the one I have chosen for myself. However, it ended up working color wise and wasn't TOO light. That being said, I was not a fan of the formula. It was almost a gel consistency and just wasn't thick or matte enough for my liking. I prefer a more full coverage concealer for my dark circles and usually go for a matte or natural finish. This was more on the natural side but not enough coverage.

Manna Kadar Lip Whip $21.00
I was really annoyed that I got this lip product because I have my beauty profile filled out and I review every item that I receive each month. This is a reddish color. I have made it pretty clear several times that I prefer more of a natural or nude lip. They sent out 3 shades of this lip product and the other two were a natural and a nude. And I got stuck with a reddish wine shade. I feel like they don't even look at my beauty profile or reviews when stuff like this happens (which is more often than not). I didn't even open this and will gift it or save it for a giveaway.
I was honestly annoyed that I got two skincare items in this box. I haven an insane amount of skincare open as well as a whole entire rubbermaid bin system of unopened product. I really don't want or need new skincare. I try to use up my current skincare before opening new stuff. That being said, I decided to try this because its a scrub and I switch up my cleansers. I also just finished up one of the facial scrubs in my shower. This isn't a bad facial scrub. It is a little harsh but doesn't bother me. It may bother other people with sensitive skin. I don't love the scent of it. Overall, it does the job and my skin feels clean and soft after using it.
Where do I even begin with this? This product is the size of my palm and it cost $107.00? I think not. I have seen this on sites for as low as $25.00. I would never pay $107.00 or anywhere near that for this product. That being said, I was also annoyed to get yet ANOTHER sleeping mask. I have so many and don't even use them. This was a big waste for me.

Overall, this had to be my least favorite boxes ever. I am usually always happy with the value but I was pretty disappointed. I didn't get any of the brands/products that I wanted while other people got all 3 of the brands that I wanted. I thought that it was kind of unfair. Especially, since my beauty profile says that I love blush and highlight and I didn't get either. I also got a reddish lipstick when I have clearly stated I like nude lip products over and over. I just feel like why am I filling out a beauty profile and reviewing the items each month if they don't even look at them? It seems like they aren't even taking those things into consideration when picking my items. I am considering cancelling BoxyCharm but I am going to keep it for a few more months and see if anything changes. I feel like the main focus is Premium and they are putting the best products in that box. There is currently a wait list for Premium.
IPSY GLAM BAG PLUS
Next up is Ipsy Glam Bag Plus! I'm going to share my thoughts on my GBP for January! For those of you unfamiliar with Ipsy Glam Bag, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 5 deluxe/sample sized products each month. The subscription is $12.00 a month and usually has a theme. They also offer an upgraded box every month called Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. This box is $25.00 a month and includes 5 FULL SIZED products. They also just released yet ANOTHER box called Ipsy Ultimate which I believe was created to compete with BoxyLuxe. This box is $50.00 a month and includes 8 FULL SIZED products and 4 deluxe/sample sized products. I am currently only subscribed to Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. All subscriptions come with a makeup bag (different sizes per subscription type) and you are able to pick one product in your box (GBP & GBU). With Glam Bag you are able to pick two.
The theme for January was "Ipsy Clean Slate". I was excited to see another Huda Beauty palette featured this month. I was able to pick one item and chose the Huda Beauty Warm Obsessions. Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Palette $27.00
These highlighters remind me of the ColourPop Super Shock Highlighters. They are nice but a little too glittery for me. That being said, I am glad that Ipsy listened to my beauty profile and sent me highlighters. I also appreciate that they sent two. I will most likely use these as shadows.

I was excited to see a Purlisse product in my bag! I have become a huge fan of the Purlisse brand and just ran out of my eye cream. This eye serum is light weight and soaks right into my skin. It's a bit pricey for the size of the product but I am glad I get to try it out because of this glam bag to see how I like it!
Hanalei Lip Treatment Clear $20.00
Normally I wouldn't be too excited about getting a lip treatment but my lips were really chapped when I got this. This product worked really well at healing my chapped lips. The only thing I didn't like was that it felt like there was a slight film on my teeth and it has a weird taste. It went away after a short time and I applied it before I went to bed so it wasn't a huge deal.
Nature's Cartel 90's Nostalgia $16.00
I was happy to receive a lipstick especially since the color was definitely something I would wear. Once again I was happy that Ipsy kept my beauty profile in mind when choosing my products and color choice. This is a nice 90's brownish rose color. It does take a little bit of layering but overall a really pretty color. It a matte finish which I like as well. I wish the shape of the lipstick was a little different but either way this is a great everyday lip color for me.

IPSY PROMOTIONS
Ipsy does their promotions different than BoxyCharm. Instead of offering discount codes for purchases on the featured brands websites, they offer cash back products featured in that month's glam bag. You are able to purchase full sized products at are sampled in the Glam Bag that month. The products are discounted from normal price and you can get cash bag on the purchase. They also offer "Ipsy Offers"that are discounted beauty bundles from different brands. Lastly, you are allowed to add "Add Ons" to your Glam Bag Plus which are other items featured that month that are not part of your personal box. These items are heavily discounted. Lastly, they offer "Mystery Bags".
TOTAL VALUE: $139.00
Overall, I was very impressed with my January Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. I feel like Ipsy really listened to my beauty profile and the products/shades that I prefer. I will use every product in this bag which is rare for me. Normally, there are one or two products that are a miss. They nailed this bag which makes me confused because I was going to cancel my Glam Bag Plus after this month. That being said, I skipped February as I wasn't feeling the spoilers that I saw. I do LOVE that you are able to skip months with Ipsy Glam Bag Plus which is why I still have this subscription. I also read that the March Glam Bag and Glam Bag Plus will have and extra product in the bag. There will be extra products in the Glam Bag Ultimate as well.
WHO WINS THE BEAUTY BOX THROW DOWN? Ipsy Glam Bag Plus
This was an easy decision for me. Ipsy won this month by a long shot. I loved 4 of the 6 products that I got. And liked the other 2. On the other hand, BoxyCharm was a huge fail for me. I didn't get any of the products that I wanted and I feel like some people got way better brands than others. I feel like they are only focusing on the Premium Box and the others are an after thought. I hope that the upcoming boxes make me change my mind because I have been a long time subscriber of BoxyCharm (Oct 2016) and will be sad if I cancel. I just can't justify spending the money on products I won't use.
