Hey Guys,
Today I will be sharing the October edition of Beauty Box Throw Down. In this review I will be sharing what I got in both my BoxyCharm and my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. Since I am signed up for BoxyLuxe I will only be doing these when I get both boxes that are comparable in price. Beauty Box Throw Down is very similar to the regular reviews that I do where I show the products, link the products, share my thoughts, and the box total value. However, the difference with this is that I will also let you guys know which box that I think is a better value. So lets jump right in!

However, the difference with this is that I will also let you guys know which box that I think is a better value. So lets jump right in!
First I'm going to share my thoughts on my BoxyCharm for October! For those of you unfamiliar with BoxyCharm, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 4-5 FULL SIZED products each month. The subscription is $25.00 a month and usually has a theme. You are now able to pick one item in your box each month but it is more of a this item or that. Not any item in your box. They also offer an upgraded box every quarter called BoxyLuxe. This is an additional $28.99 a quarter. The theme for October was "Boxy After Dark". I was pretty excited to see that a Dose of Colors palette was going to be featured in the box. Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. Also, make sure to check out the discount codes below for the month!

Dose of Colors Baked Browns Eyeshadow Palette $32.00
There were 5 or 6 different Dose of Colors palettes being sent out in different variations. I really wanted the Baked Browns or the Dose of Colors x Sarahii palette. I didn't see one person get this palette. As you can see from my picture above I originally received the Marvelous Mauves palette. Even though it was pretty I knew I would use the Baked Browns much more often. I'm also going to Italy in May and though this was the perfect basic palette to bring along with a small palette with shimmer shades. I found someone to trade my Marvelous Mauve palette with and am very happy with Baked Browns.
The shadows in this palette are super soft and pigmented. Because of this there is alot of fall out in the pan which can be messy. That being said, the shadows are honestly amazing. I have never tried any Dose of Colors palettes before and I am super impressed. The colors are extremely pigmented and blend really well. I loved this palette so much that I went out and bought the DOC x Sarahii palette as well.
Here is a close up of the palette:

I was not familiar with this brand when I got this in the box. I decided to give it a try anyways. It's definitely too dark on me right now as a highlighter but may work in the summer. This is actually a pretty inner corner highlight or lid shade. The texture is very interesting it almost feels like a putty. I haven't see anything like it before. It has nice pigmentation. I will keep this and use it for other purposes and maybe try it out as a highlighter in the summer.
I am usually not a fan of lip gloss but decided to give it a try. I wouldn't say it actually plumps my lips but it does have a cool minty feel on the lips. It not overly sticky but also doesn't have much color pay off. It's good for adding a little shine to your lips if you don't feel like wearing lipstick or liquid lipstick. I paired it with the JonteBlu Lip Pencil that I got to give my lips a little more color.
I think we recieved an eyeliner from this brand in a previous BoxyCharm but I didn't ever try it. I decided to give this a try because I like neutral lip pencils. I was very impressed with this lip liner! It is creamy and pigmented and is the perfect color for my lips. I have been reaching for this lip liner a ton since I got it.
I got to pick this item in my box but I really still don't understand the point of this product. I didn't want the Iconic London Glitter Setting Spray so that is why I chose this. It definitely makes my skin look glassy but I might say it looks more greasy. I need to do more research before I decide if I like this product or not.

Overall, I really liked this bag! I might even use the word love. A few products in this box surprised me and I ended up really liking them. I love the Dose of Colors palette so much and it costs more than the whole box. My one complaint is that I wish BoxyCharm would let you pick ANY item in your box and not just between two items that they choose. I would have liked to pick which eyeshadow palette that I want so that I didn't have to trade to get the one I wanted. Other than that I was very happy with this box. I will be posting the November box soon but if you haven't seen, there are more Dose of Colors products featured!
Next up is Ipsy Glam Bag Plus! I'm going to share my thoughts on my GBP for October! For those of you unfamiliar with Ipsy Glam Bag, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 5 deluxe/sample sized products each month. The subscription is $12.00 a month and usually has a theme. They also offer an upgraded box every month called Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. This box is $25.00 a month and includes 5 FULL SIZED products. They also just released yet ANOTHER box called Ipsy Ultimate which I believe was created to compete with BoxyLuxe. This box is $50.00 a MONTH and included 8 FULL SIZED products and 4 deluxe/sample sized products. I am currently only subscribed to Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. All subscriptions come with a makeup bag (different sizes per subscription type) and you are able to pick one product in your box (GBP & GBU). Glam Bag you will be able to pick two.
The theme for October was "Ipsy Flaunt It". I was super excited that you are now able to pick one item in your box each month. I chose the Ipsy x Betty Boop palette. Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. Also, make sure to check out the discount codes below for the month!

Ipsy x Betty Boop $??
I couldn't find this palette anywhere online for purchase. I want to say you could only get it in the limited edition Ipsy x Betty Boop bundle that they were selling last month. I don't see it available for purchase any more. It included this palette, a blush palette, lip products, and some other stuff for about $40.00 if I remember correctly. I thought that this palette had a weird selection of shadows but decided to pick it and try it out anyways. These shadows aren't the best quality that I have tried. There are so pretty shades in this palette but I wouldn't go out and buy it. I created a pretty simple look with the first top and bottom shade and the last bottom shade is actually a really pretty color for a smokey eye. The bronze shade is completely different on they eyes and almost an orange pink color. Other than that this palette is just meh. I may save this palette for that one smokey gray shimmer shade or pass it on to a friend.

Lovecraft Beauty Bronzer Palette $39.00
I have never heard of this brand before and I really didn't need a new bronzer palette. I just got the Tarte Park Ave Princess Chisel Palette in my BoxyLuxe the month prior. The quality of these are okay but nothing special. I have used it a few time but don't reach for this palette.
Here are swatches of the bronzer palette:
I have never heard of this brand and don't like cream/stick highlights. I will be passing this on or saving for a giveaway.
F.A.R.A.H Brushes Midnight Pro Trio $36.00
This trio includes 3 face brushes none of which I would use. I just don't think these brushes look that great and I wouldn't pay the listed price for them. I will save these for a giveaway or pass them on.
I got a similar Touch in Sol primer if not the same one in my BoxyCharm a previous month. I still haven't used that one or this one. I don't really understand what this primer does besides maybe hydrate? I wasn't excited about getting this.
This bag is cute but I really don't need another bag. It just goes in a drawer with the rest. These little bags don't make or break my thoughts on this subscription. They are cute to use as bags when gifting makeup to friends/family or for giveaways.
Ipsy does their promotions different than BoxyCharm. Instead of offering discount codes for purchases on the featured brands websites, they offer cash back products featured in that month's glam bag. You are able to purchase full sized products at are sampled in the Glam Bag that month. The products are discounted from normal price and you can get cash bag on the purchase. They also offer "Ipsy Offers"that are discounted beauty bundles from different brands. Lastly, you are allowed to add "Add Ons" to your Glam Bag Plus which are other items featured that month that are not part of your personal box. These items are heavily discounted. Lastly, they offer "Mystery Bags".
TOTAL VALUE: $124.00+?
Overall I wasn't impressed with October Ipsy Glam Bag Plus at all. Most of the brands I was unfamilar with. The only thing that I might MAYBE use is the palette but even that I wasn't in love with. This box was definitely a miss for me. The November box didn't interest me at all so I skipped it for the month. December's isn't looking to good either. I will decide this week if I am going to skip it or not. If by January I am still not interested in the products in this subscription I am going to cancel.
WHO WINS THE BEAUTY BOX THROW DOWN? BoxyCharm
This was an easy decision for me. BoxyCharm won this month by a long shot. I really liked 4 of the 5 products in my box which is pretty good. I'm not sure about the Touch In Sol Glassy Balm but I LOVE the Dose of Colors palette. On the other hand, Ipsy GBP was a huge fail for me. The had all non-brand name products in the box and nothing really interested me. My first two boxes were great then they started to go down hill after that. They need to step it up big time or I'm cancelling.
