Hey Guys,
I' sure most of you are aware of the controversy surrounding the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Eyeshadow Palette. For those of you that are unaware, Jaclyn Hill did a collaboration with Becca Cosmetics creating a whole Champagne Glow collection after her Champagne Pop face highlighter was a huge hit. Part of that collection included an eye shadow palette. There were very mixed reviews of this palette from beauty bloggers and YouTubers. Some said it wasn't really that good while others said that they loved it. I decided to get it and decide for myself.
At first glance, the colors looked beautiful. The purple/mauve shade Cordial was beautiful, the highlight shade Chardonnay was also really beautiful. The other three shadows were the issues. Champagne Toast as pretty but not AS pigmented as I hoped. It applied better with my finger BUT I experienced a ton of creasing and transfer onto my upper lid. You can see this in the pictures below. The two matte browns Cognac and Bordeaux weren't as pigmented and did apply a bit patchy. Lastly, the three not so great shadows faded throughout the day.
Here are two looks that I created using this palette:
Many people were LIVID about how hyped up this palette was and how it did not live up to its expectations. I wasn't that upset because I have never swatched or used the other Becca palettes before. People were saying the formula was completely different and that cheaper ingredients (ones used in super inexpensive drugstore brands) were used. There was also a key ingredient missing from this new palette that made the other Becca Palettes unique. That ingredient is Green Coffee Oil. This ingredient helps smooth the lids for a better application of the shadows. I don't understand why they would take out such a special ingredient that made their palettes stand out. Also, the other Becca palettes were made in the USA while these palettes were made in China. All these claims have come to be true. Becca claims that some people got good palettes while others got the bad ones. Becca and Jaclyn apologized to all the consumers that they let down and pulled the palette from stores and production. They also said that all customers that bought these palettes were able to return them for 100% full refund no questions asked (which you can do at Sephora anyways?).
Here are my swatches vs the swatches on the Becca Instagram page:
After deciding that I was not happy with this palette, I returned it. Because all of the fuss over the difference in quality I decided I had to pick up one of the other Becca palettes and see this for myself.
I decided to pick up the Becca Ombre Rouge palette and people are right. The formula is very different. This is an all matte palette but that mattes are more of a satin/matte than a full on matte.
These shadows are softer and have a creamier consistency. I will do a more in depth review on this palette with makeup look in a different post but I wanted to make a point to note that I HAVE tried the two and they most definitely feel different and apply differently.
But at the end of the day, guys.... this is ONLY makeup and there are far worse things in the world than a shitty eyeshadow palette...I was HORRIFIED at how NASTY people are being towards Jaclyn and Becca Cosmetics. Its's really sad. Get over it and return the palette if you don't like it. That's my take on the whole situation.
So if you haven't figured it out already, I didn't love the Champagne Glow Eye Shadow Palette and would have suggested that you skip on it if it was still available.
Have you tried either Becca palettes?? Post your comments below!

Becca's swatches seem WAY more creamy and pigmented. They don't even look like the same shadows.
